The Creative Fire Workshop
Lighting a creative flame using the wet felting technique — one that will never go out and will always support a creative person.
In this workshop, we will light a wonderful creative fire using the wet felting technique. This little flame is something every creative person needs as a reminder of their inner strength. It has great potential as an emotional supporter!
Of course, the flame can also become a lovely gift, or be turned into a pincushion, a fridge magnet, a keychain, earrings, or a brooch.
During the workshop, we will learn the basic techniques of working with a solid sculptural form in wet felting. High-quality felt to lift your spirits. Working time with some chatting: 1.5–2 hours.
What do we need?
1. Mat for wet felting. I use ribbed kitchen cupboard mat from IKEA shop. It sold in rolls in kitchen section of IKEA. You can find something similar.
2. Soap.
3. Water container.
4. Scissors with sharp tips.
5. Piece of mesh fabric (tulle, thin mosquito net or some fabric for tutu skirts), size A5 is enough. You can also use a piece of nylon stockings.
6. Needle felting tools: dishwashing sponge and felting needle size 38, gauge star. Medium size needle will work too.
7. Wool: you can make a flame from absolutely any wool - from coarse carded wool you will get a fluffier and denser version, you will have to trim the surface, and from extra fine merino it will be smoother and softer. I work with extra fine Australian merino in 18-20 micron ribbon. The finished flame, measuring 7,5 cm in height and 3 cm in width, took 3 g of extra fine Australian merino. The more wool you use, the thicker the heart will be.
You need few colours 3-4 g in total: yellow, orange, red plus a bit of white for the eyes.
8. Sewing needle and sewing thread of matching color and the black thread for eyes and mouth embroidery.
9. An awl.
10. A chopstick.
11. Hand towel.
12. Optional. If you want to turn the fire into a brooch, you will need a clasp and sewing thread of matching color. You can also make the heart into a fridge magnet, then you will need a super strong neodymium magnet (silver colour, 2 magnets minimum 10x3 mm).
