Icicle Workshop

Icicle Workshop

Icicle workshop

Have you ever heard of warm, non-melting icicles? Now you can make them yourself out of wool! They will sparkle and create a winter atmosphere, but the atmosphere will be very warm and cozy.

This free workshop is dedicated to an icicle that can be a great decoration for the Christmas tree and the winter interior. The icicle can be made elegant or funny depending on your mood.

We will mostly use the wet felting technique, but also include some other techniques. You can work with absolutely any wool. The project is simple, but fun. Perfect for beginners.

In this workshop, I will show you how to felt a cute icicle from start to finish. We work together in a livestream. The livestream time is about 1.5 hours.

What do we need?

  1. 1. Mat for wet felting. I use ribbed kitchen cupboard mat from IKEA shop. It sold in rolls in kitchen section of IKEA. You can find something similar.
  2. 2. Soap.
  3. 3. Water container.
  4. 4. Scissors with sharp tips.
  5. 5. Piece of mesh fabric (tulle, thin mosquito net or some fabric for tutu skirts), size A5 is enough. You can also use a piece of nylon stockings.
  6. 6. The material for the template -  a piece of thick plastic bag or laminate underlay.
  7. 7. Needle felting tools: mat (dishwashing sponge is fine) and felting needle size 38, gauge star.
  8. 8. Wool: I make an icicle from white carded Bergschaf wool 28-32 microns. I prefer to use coarse wool for interior objects than extra fine, then you can make more volumed and dense pieces easier. But it can be any wool: coarse, fine, combed or carded. It takes about 1-3 g of wool to make one icicle, about 12 cm long depends on density.
  9. 9. Decoration. Viscose fibres can give a bit of shine to the icicle but much more fun to use glitter: silver, white, gold etc. Fraction is about 1mm, very small is not suitable.
  10. 10. Piece of wire, 20 cm long. I use floristic wire with plastic cover, 0,55-0,95 mm. But it can be any wire of the same size.
  11. 11. A razor.
  12. 12. If you plan to make a creature icicle, then you need eyes, glue and sewing threaded needle to embroider the smile.
  13. 13. A measurement tape.
  14. 14. A hand towel.
