Hedgehog pin cushion workshop

Hedgehog pin cushion workshop

When you want to do some craft work, a wonderful hedgehog will hold your pins and needles and keep your spirits up. And it's easy to make!

In this workshop we will create a wonderful hedgehog. It will not only keep your needles handy, but also cheer you up every time you work. We will create a hedgehog in the technique of three-dimensional wet felting, but we will also use elements of needle felting. This hedgehog will definitely please any craftwoman and will be a wonderful useful gift.

The workshop is easy and fun and very suitable for beginners. You can work with any wool, but I highly recommend coarse carded Bergschaf wool or something similar.

In the workshop I will show you from start to finish how to felt cute hedgehog with wet felting technique. We will work together live on a livestream. The broadcasting time is about 1,5 hours.

What do we need?

  1. 1. Mat for wet felting. I use ribbed kitchen cupboard mat from IKEA shop. It sold in rolls in kitchen section of IKEA. You can find something similar.
  2. 2. Soap.
  3. 3. Water container.
  4. 4. Scissors with sharp tips.
  5. 5. Piece of mesh fabric (tulle, thin mosquito net or some fabric for tutu skirts), size A5 is enough. You can also use a piece of nylon stockings.
  6. 6. The material for the template - a piece of thick plastic bag or laminate underlay.
  7. 7. Needle felting tools: mat (dishwashing sponge is fine) and felting needle size 38, gauge star. Medium size needle will work too.
  8. 8. Wool: I make my hedgehog with carded Bergschaf wool 28-32 microns, but any wool will work. For a ready hedgehog of about 3 cm tall, 7 cm long and 4 cm wide I used 8-10 g of wool (couple of gram dark brown and the rest is light beige wool, also tiny bit of black for the nose).
  9. 9. Plastic toy eyes 3 mm or black beads. Also eyes can be felted or embroidered.
  10. 10. A sewing needle and a thread of matching color if you plan to sew on beads.
  11. 11. Superglue, piece of adhesive tape, pin and pliers, if you plan to glue the eyes.
  12. 12. Gloves if necessary. It is good idea to protect your hands. I recommend the nitrile gloves but any plastic or silicone will work. I work with bare hands.
  13. 13. A measurement tape.
  14. 14. A hand towel.
  15. 15. A pack of pins for the hedgehog.
