Chicken on the wheels Workshop

Chicken on the wheels Workshop

A chicken is not a bird, it's a vehicle! You won't get bored with a chicken on wheels like this: it's bright and showy in the interior and a great project for felting and developing the imagination.

This free workshop is all about positivity, because here we will be creating an incredible racing hen, who will drive up at the first call with a body full of goodness. Such a chicken will store both Easter eggs, and pencils, and handicraft tools, and candies, and balls for knitting, and other secrets.

We will be using the wet felting technique as well as other techniques, and working with coarse carded wool. This is not a very easy project and will take several hours to complete, but after that you can create as many different magical creatures on wheels as you like. The project is also suitable for beginners.

In this workshop, I will show you from start to finish how to create a spectacular interior hen on wheels. We will work together during the livestream. The broadcast time is about three hours.

What do we need?

1. Mat for wet felting. I use ribbed kitchen cupboard mat from IKEA shop. It sold in rolls in kitchen section of IKEA. You can find something similar.

2. Soap.

3. Water container.

4. Scissors.

5. Piece of mesh fabric (tulle, thin mosquito net or some fabric for tutu skirts), size A4 is good.

6. The material for the template is a piece of thick plastic bag or laminate underlay.

7. Needle felting tools: mat (dishwashing sponge is fine) and felting needle size 38, gauge star.

8. Wool: I make a chicken of carded Bergschaf wool (28-32 microns). For large interior objects, I recommend using coarser wool and preferably carded, so it is faster to work with the volume and you get a stiffer felt. But you can take any wool and experiment. For one chicken in the finished form of length about 11-12 cm I use about 40 grams of wool. On a large - 50-55 grams of wool.

You can combine different types of wool.

In the class I will make a smaller chicken, white with a blue linen decoration. Color: white (main), red and blue (wheels, comb, beard), yellow (beak).

9. Decor for the chicken as desired. Wool, viscose, pieces of fabric. I have a piece of blue linen fabric.

10. A wooden or plastic stick to put the wheels on. For a small chicken you can use barbecue skewers, for a larger chicken you need to find thicker sticks in a construction store. You need two sticks about 15-20 cm long.

11. The pliers to cut the wooden sticks.

12. The glue to attach the wheels and the eyes. I use superglue (second fast glue) in form of gel.

13. An owl.

14. The eyes: I use plastic eyes 4 mm but you can use any you like. Also you can instead use beads, buttons, embroider the eyes, paint it or make woolen ones while felting.

15. А rope or ribbon to pull the chicken.

16. A roll of thin trash bags.

17. A roll of toilet paper.

18. The razor to trim the surface.

19. A measurement tape.

20. A hand towel.
